Life Skills Education Project for In-School Adolescents

State Resource Centre for Adult Education is a state level NGO established in 1986 to provide technical resource support to literacy programme in M.P.  State Resource Centre was allotted to Bhartiya Grameen Mahila Sangh M.P. branch but since April 2004, it is a separately registered society under Societies Registration Act.

 

Recently, State Resource Centre has entered into agreement with Rajya Shiksha Kendra, Govt.of M.P. for implementing a two and a half year project starting November 2005 to April 2008 on imparting Life Skills Education to adolescents in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhyalaya, Residential Bridge Courses, Girls Hostel, Model Cluster School in 48 districts of M.P.  These are institutions set up by the Government to promote education of girls in backward blocks of the districts.  The programme will cater to the in-school adolescents.  UNICEF, Bhopal will financially assist the project.  The salient features of the implementation plan include:

 

*          Need assessment and baseline survey

*          Sensitization programms for functionaries

*          Develpment of training Package and IEC material

*          Training of Teachers of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Girls Hostels and Residential Bridge Courses

*          Training of trainers, Master trainers on Life Skills education for imparting further training to teachers of Model Cluster Schools.

*          Sessions on Life Skills Education to be conducted by the trained teachers

*          Monitoring and follow-up activities

*          Process Documentation

*          Evaluation, dissemination of report

 

A staff of 6 has been appointed to implement the project.  State Resource Centre will be responsible for implementing the project and will provide all the necessary infrastructure and technical support to the project.  The following activities were undertaken in the LSE project from December 2005 to January 2007.

 

*          Orientation of project staff towards Life Skills Education and LSE project

*          Baseline survey, need assessment at grassroots level in 10 districts of M.P.

*          Development and finalization of Life Skills Education training manual, guidebook for the facilitators and workbook for the programme participant girls

*          Sensitization programme for district project coordinators and gender coordinators in 12 batches

*          IEC material for adolescents was developed in a workshop involving writers, field functionaries and experts

*          Life skills education training programme in 7 batches for facilitators.  182 facilitators have been trained in these trainings

*          112 master trainers have been trained in 3 batches at SRC.  The Block Gender Coordinators trained as Master Trainers will further impart training to teachers of Model Cluster Schools

*          To know the progress of Life Skills Education in districts, a supportive monitoring in 17 districts have been carried out by State Resource Centre.
